HKMB HUB International Insurance Brokers

HKMB HUB International Insurance Brokers are pleased to announce the launch of our brand-new, exclusive online program to provide Liability Insurance coverage for Dance Instructors. This program has been tailored to suit a range of Dance Instructors with options that vary in accordance with the size and scope of operations, with premiums that are tiered accordingly. Often, venues and community centers require their users to provide proof of insurance when renting the facility, and this program becomes a cheap and easy way for dance instructors to obtain the coverages they need to satisfy their venue's requests.

The options are:

Basic: Instructors who are strictly Freelance/Contract Workers
This program is designed for Dance Instructors who work with one or several dance studios but are not considered an employee of any given studio. The Instructor does not arrange or conduct classes independently of a studio.

Comprehensive: Instructors who are also Sole Proprietors
This program is designed for the 'entrepreneur', who organized and conducts their classes independently of any dance studio, and retains all profits from the classes. The instructor cannot operate a "dance studio", that is, own and/or permanently lease a studio location.

Please see the attached for a quick over-view of the program. Dance Instructors can link to our website and purchase the required insurance coverage in less than 5 minutes. The link to the website is: www.hkmb.com/danceinstructors

HKMB HUB International is the largest independently owned brokerage in Canada with a highly specialized Sports & Entertainment Practice Area. Our specialization allows us to provide our clients with industry expertise , experience and full understanding of the risks our clients face on a day-to-day basis. For this program, we have partnered with K&K Insurance, a respected and established insurance carrier that specializes in sports & entertainment risk.

WAVES WHIRLING: An innovative series of classes with Roula Said, founder of the Om Laila System.
"Waves"
· These classes focus on the waveforms or currents of energy
that travel with fluidity through the entire body. We track their
pathways through awakening the eyes of the chakras and are taken
on marvelous journeys of self-exploration. Oh...and some very
awesome bellydance happens while we're at it!
"Whirling"
· These classes also explore the ecstatic art of the whirling
dervish. More specifically they explore the essential impulse to
whirl - as a child does, giving the body guidance to support this
deeply natural act.

By performing at events such as Toronto’s Word on the Street, Hillside Music Festival, Vaughan Festival of the Arts, Taste of the Kingsway, Junction Arts Festival, Sudbury’s Summerfest, and Celebrate Toronto Festival, Charlie has quickly become well known for his unique Interactive Performances.

Go to “Community Concert Jam” on the website menu to get more details. His jams have been described as “natural and spontaneous” (D. Multimedia Project Seeking Dance Artists

Composer of a music-based multimedia, multidisciplinary project is looking for assistance to help create some dance and creative movement sequences for film/videos and live performances. Although this will require some creative input/ideas from an appropriate dancer/choreographer, this project is already very well-defined as to the tone, style and general direction. Therefore the sky is not the limit in this case in terms of what might be done here. The basic tone required is a very expressive, lyrical and slow-moving cross between classical and modern dance, sometimes little more than a form of slow-moving sculpture. The expressive quality of the lines, shapes and basic gestures here is a major focal point and they must be in harmony with the music (although it doesn't necessarily need to exactly follow it). The intended look will be subtle, subdued and both classical and modern at the same time. Some might see it as conservative or retro. The music is a sort of cross between classical and ambient and the project has been in development for 10 years now.

This will be a paid position and the terms and levels of involvement are somewhat negotiable. Interested applicants please send an email to robertbrucemusic@gmail.com with contact info and a few sentences about what you do and what you believe you can contribute to this project - nothing too elaborate in your initial email as talking on the phone or in person will address the details. Serious inquiries only please.

Organization Description
Canada’s oldest Indian dance company exposes audiences to the stunning beauty of traditional Indian dance, while remaining open to other dance cultures in the creation of new works. The company uses the language of many dance styles to re-interpret ancient themes and introduce contemporary concepts. The Menaka Thakkar Dance Company and its Artistic Director, Menaka Thakkar, have earned a reputation for artistic excellence, presenting works that are visually spectacular and infused with drama. Dr. Menaka Thakkar, is an internationally renowned dancer, choreographer and teacher working in three classical forms of Indian dance: Bharatanatyam, Odissi and Kuchipudi. Dr. Thakkar has been hailed as a dancer, “in a class by herself” by the Times of India and, “a rare jewel in the richly encrusted crown of Toronto’s dance community” by the Globe and Mail. Perhaps Menaka’s greatest contribution to Indian Dance has been the establishment of its presence in the Canadian mind through tireless efforts made over 35 years.
Her work has been recognized with many awards and honors including: 2006 Face the Arts Cultural Maverick. an honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Lit) from York University, the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce President’s Award and the Toronto Arts Award in the category of Performing Arts. As a performer and choreographer Menaka Thakkar exposes her audience to a variety of performances: from stunning solo numbers to elaborate productions of dance dramas; and from pure traditional dance to experimental works which fuse several dance styles. As a teacher of classical dance, Dr. Thakkar has created a whole generation of rigorously trained Indian dancers from across Canada. She is the Artistic Director of Nrtyakala - The Canadian Academy of Indian Dance, which she founded 32 years ago in Toronto. Selected graduates of Nrityakala perform in the Menaka Thakkar Dance Company. In addition Dr. Thakkar teaches Indian dance in intensive periodic sessions at the National Ballet School in Toronto and is Adjunct Professor of Dance at York University.
