Kahawi Dance Theatre’s Aboriginal Dance Training Program

Brief Synopsis: Aboriginal Dance Training (ADT) program is a physical training intensive with weekly classes in Ballet, Contemporary, Cultural Dance Repertoire, KDT Repertoire and Dance Practice Lectures. In 2012, KDT offers our special alternative training classes/workshops in Muscle & Bone, Gaga and a Choreographic Lab led by Charles Koroneho.

Our one of a kind program offers a combination of western-based dance and Indigenous dance techniques/styles complemented by alternative training systems that are aimed to activate and prepare the body and mind for movement and performance.

ADT is designed for participants possessing a foundation and experience in dance. The goal of the program is to maximize physical training, body awareness, physical strength and flexibility and to increase exposure and investigation into Indigenous dance forms both traditional and contemporary. Our ADT program is open to people of all cultural backgrounds.

Brief Synopsis: A powerful and metaphorical journey, Susuriwka – willow bridge is an emotional and challenging homage to land and spirit. It is a dance work that explores inter-connection, sacredness, loss and revitalization. As dancers move to the entrancing indigenous sound, reliving spiritual connections on stage, we are reminded to awaken spirit in every day life, especially in the face of turmoil and catastrophe.
